About the Yakima Valley Big Band
In the Fall of 2022, Ken Bergevin and Josh Parrill had an idea. What if they could find enough jazz afficionados from within the ranks of the Yakima Valley Community Band to start up a community jazz band? The call went out and the Community Band members responded. Spearheaded by Ken, a library of over 80 charts was put together, along with much care and feeding to shepherd band members into rehearsals, coach them through playing both jazz standards and newer pieces, and the Yakima Valley Big Band was born.
Led and assisted by these two professional musicians/music educators, the Big Band plays iconic hits from the Swing era as well as more modern fare, much of which is recognizable from radio, TV and movies.
